First Google Cloud Region in Africa

Google, on Wednesday 5, October 2022 declares its intent to establish a Google Cloud region in South Africa. This will be the first in the continent.

  • Google operates a global network of 35 Google Cloud Regions & 106 zones spread across 200+ countries
  • Google has committed since last year, to invest $1B over the next 5 years in Africa’s digital transformation.
  • Africa’s internet economy has the capability to grow the continent’s GDP by 5.2% over the next 5 years.
  • The South Africa cloud region will contribute more than a cumulative USD 2.1 billion to the country‚Äôs GDP
  • The cloud region will support the creation of more than 40,000 jobs by 2030.

Google is building dedicated interconnect sites in 3 major countries in Africa: South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya.
