Most Common Text File Extensions & How They Apply

A basic understanding of the different text file format there are will help you to know which to use for different purposes.

1. Rich Text Format (.RTF)
Rich Text Format (RTF) is a simple text file format that can easily be transferred and read from one word processing software to another.
It was developed by Microsoft Corporation, and it is the default file format for the popular windows notepad. Every file created in the windows notepad has “.rtf” as its extension.
